Acne
Treatment
What is Acne?
Acne is a condition caused by skin cells that do not shed properly and plug
pores, causing oil and bacteria to be trapped inside. As oil and bacteria
accumulate, the skin becomes inflamed and swells outward forming whiteheads,
blackheads and pimples.
How do
the treatments work?
Using Laserscope's FDA cleared green laser, light is delivered through the
skin's surface triggering the bodies' natural bacteria fighting defenses. These
defenses kill the problem causing bacteria, significantly reducing the severity
of current and future breakouts.
What can
I expect during treatment?
After discussing your medical history, including any drugs you are currently
taking, with your medical practitioner, the treatment area will be cleaned and
a thin layer of gel will be applied. Your practitioner will glide the laser
handpiece over the treatment area in a brushing motion as the laser light is
pulsed through the skin.
Is it
painful?
Many patients say each laser pulse feels like the snap of a rubber band against
the skin, though treatments of over active acne may be more uncomfortable. Your
medical practitioner may recommend a topical anesthetic in order to make
treatments more comfortable.
What
should I expect following treatment?
Your face may appear slightly flushed and swollen, though these effects usually
subside after a few hours or days. Sunscreen should be applied and, if you
wish, make-up may be applied immediately after treatment, as the skin's surface
is not actually damaged by the laser. Please check with your doctor to
determine if your make-up is appropriately formulated for acne suffers.
How long
will the effects last?
Clinical data suggests that most patients find their acne will improve after
the completion of about four treatments, two a week for two weeks. While many
patients continue to improve in the months following treatment, some patients
experience a plateau in their improvement. Repeated treatments may be necessary
to maintain results.

Laser
Hair Removal
Why is Lyra
the best solution?
The Lyra offers effective results while maintaining the normal
appearance of the skin. It uses the best technology currently available for
hair removal, offering outstanding results with the widest range of skin tones
and hair colors. The laser beam penetrates your skin and gets absorbed in the
hair follicle residing under the skin surface. The laser energy destroys the
follicle with the heat that it generates. Because the laser beam is large in
diameter, it affects a large number of hairs simultaneously.
What can
I expect during the treatment?
Most patients experience a stinging, burning sensation when a laser
pulse is delivered. To reduce discomfort, a cooling system automatically
removes heat from the surface of your skin before, during and after the laser
exposure. You will not need a general anesthesia or pain medication, but a
topical anesthetic cream may be applied to sensitive areas.
How many
treatments will be needed?
The number of treatments required to obtain optimal results varies
with hair density, hair color, skin types, the treatment area and your hair
growth cycle. The density of your hair and its growth cycle are affected by
many things such as your age, ethnic background, hormones or medications. Laser
treatments impair the growth capacity of hair follicles when they are in a
growth cycle at the time of treatment. All hair follicles are not active at the
same time. Depending upon the growth cycle of the follicles when the treatment
is applied, several treatments with a few weeks in between may be required to
obtain the desired effect.
What
should I expect following the treatment?
Once the treatment is complete, the area exposed to the laser is
cleansed and you are free to return to your normal routine. Some patients may
experience a slight reddening around hair follicles following the treatments,
which typically disappears within a few minutes. It is always recommended to
avoid sun exposure or to use sunscreen following the laser treatment. Hair
follicles affected by the laser are lifeless and your body will attempt to cast
them off over a period of time. It will seem that the hair continues to grow
for one to two weeks after the procedure, but in fact these lifeless hairs will
easily fall out.

Enhanced
Skin Rejuvenation
Who is appropriate?
The Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation process uses Laserscope lasers. When
used at the proper settings, these lasers are safe for most skin types and
colors.
What can
I expect during a treatment?
Prior to treatment your doctor might recommend that a mild topical
anesthetic be applied to your face or another region that is scheduled for
treatment. While not necessary, some patients prefer to be treated after a
topical anesthetic is applied. Before treatment, a cool gel is applied in a
thin layer over the treatment area. The cooled window of the laser is then
placed upon the skin. When the energy is applied it feels a bit like a warm
pulse against the skin.
Is the
treatment painful?
Most patients feel minimal discomfort during the procedure. A topical
anesthetic can be applied to make the treatments more comfortable.
What can
I expect following the treatment?
Following the treatment the physician will recommend a sun block for
daily wear. Make-up can be applied immediately after treatment and you can
resume normal activities. Many patients schedule their treatments over lunch
and return to work right after. There may be some slight redness or swelling
for a few hours or, on rare occasions, a few days. Darker pigments and freckles
may get darker after the initial treatment and flake off in a few days. Because
the lasers reduce wrinkles by encouraging new collagen growth, wrinkle
improvement is gradual. At the time of your third treatment, nine to twelve
weeks after your initial treatments, you may begin to note wrinkle improvement.
How long
do treatments take?
Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation typically uses two laser wavelengths in
each treatment session. Each session takes about 30 minutes depending on the
size of the treatment area. Depending on your skin type and condition, between
3 to 8 treatments may be necessary.
How long
do the effects last?
Aging is progressive. The wrinkles and sun damage that are visible today were
often caused years before. Care should be taken to wear sun block so no new sun
damage can occur. Additionally, new wrinkles can not necessarily be stopped
from appearing. However, the laser's encouragement of new collagen growth
should help slow the appearance of new wrinkles.
Why
should I choose Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation?
Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation is a wonderful, cost effective alternative for
patients who want a more youthful appearance without needles, cosmetic surgery
or weeks of recovery time.

Leg
Vein Removal
How does the Lyra work?
The Lyra laser produces 1064nm wavelength. While the rest of the skin is almost
completely transparent for this wavelength, it is highly absorbed in blood.
Thus, the laser beam passes through the skin and penetrates the targeted
vessel. The laser energy heats up and coagulates blood inside the vessel.
Unsupported, vessel walls collapse and seal. These vessels later dissolve
within the body. The laser energy is delivered through a hand-held device with
a cooling tip. The cooling tip provides additional safety and comfort during
the treatment by lowering the thermal effect on your skin surface.
What can
I expect during the treatment?
You will experience a stinging burning sensation during the treatment, which
resolves immediately after the treatment is over. In some cases, you may prefer
to use topical anesthetic cream, which may completely eliminate any discomfort.
What
should I expect after the procedure?
The appearance of the treated vessels will dramatically change turning from
blue and purple into light red. Some of the vessels may bulge, however, any
inflammation will disappear within a couple of hours. The redness of the
treated vessels will gradually disappear as the healing process occurs, which
may take anywhere between 2 and 6 weeks depending on the severity of the veins.
The post-operative treatment regime may include wearing support hose, avoiding
medication containing aspirin and wearing sunscreen. Make sure to discuss these
options with your laser practitioner prior to the treatment.
How many
treatments will I need?
Depending on the severity of the veins, you may require between one and three
treatments six weeks apart. The treatment is performed on the existing vessels,
diminishing or completely eliminating their appearance. However, the
development of new veins cannot be prevented. If your body tends to develop
vascular problems you will most likely come back for additional treatments.

Shaving

How does Lyra work?
Lyra's laser beam passes through the skin and is absorbed in the hair follicle
residing underneath the skin's surface. The laser energy destroys the follicle
with the heat that it generates. Destroyed hairs are the either dissolved
within the skin or ejected by the body. Because the laser beam is larger in
diameter than the follicle, a large number of hairs can be treated
simultaneously.
What
should I expect during treatment?
Most patients experience a stinging or burning sensation when a laser pulse is
delivered. While general anesthesia will not be required, a topical anesthetic
may be applied to sensitive skin. To further reduce discomfort, Lyra utilizes a
special patented cooling system that lowers the temperature of the skin at the
treatment site before, during, and after laser exposure.
What
should I expect after treatment?
After treatment with Lyra, you may return to your regular routine immediately.
Some patients may experience a slight reddening around the hair follicles
immediately following treatment. This reaction typically disappears within a
few minutes. It may seem that the hair continues to grow for a period of one to
two weeks after laser treatment, but in fact, these hairs are actually lifeless
and are simply being cast out by your body.
How many
treatments will be needed?
Laser treatment impairs the growth of hair follicles when they are in the
growth cycle at the time of treatment. All hair follicles are not active at the
same time. Depending upon the growth cycle of the follicles when the treatment
is applied, multiple treatments, spaced a few weeks apart, may be required to
obtain the overall desired effect.
